Every morning I will sit down at my desk, and write a question into my agenda. It’s actually a little ceremony. I sit down, I close my eyes, I take a couple of deep breaths. I do a two minute PQ rep. I try to purposely slow down time, become totally and fully present in the moment.
Then I handwrite the following question into my agenda: What is the one thing that will move me forward today?
I ask myself that question every day.
Then I handwrite a response to that question.
It’s one of the most powerful questions I've learned in my life. And I come up with powerful, sometimes life changing answers and action items.
Through this question I am able to let go of the energies that made my day a race to? Where exactly? It centers me in the morning before I start any of my work. Where exactly are the priorities of my life?
It's particularly important for those mornings, where my mind might be racing with to-do lists. Where I'm tempted to look at my phone and emails, and get sucked into the craziness of the day.
If every day I do something, that moves me as a partner, as a father, as a coach, as a yacht broker, as a human being, forward, into a positive, humble direction, then I’ve made my contribution to a better world.
If I can touch anyone else by being a humble and good human, then I even made a bigger contribution to the world. And I hope that I can snowball this into something big. For somebody else, or me, that doesn’t matter. As long as we contribute to a better, more forgiving, more conscious and resourceful world.
Try it for a few days, and let me know how it went. I would love to hear from you.
Ps: sometimes doing nothing and having a rest is exactly what I need. Allowing myself to do exactly nothing, is what is sometimes needed to move me forward.
